The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program at our school is a cluster program starting from 3rd to 6th grade.  Our GATE student are placed in a cluster classrooms with other students that did not qualify for the GATE program.  This provides our GATE students opportunities to work and associate with students that are not classified at gifted.  At Booker T. Washington School our GATE teachers are certified GATE teachers that provide our students with a program that incorporates the “Icons of Depth and Perception” giving our GATE students with opportunities to expand their cognitive capabilities.  Our GATE teachers are also provided with training throughout the year to continue to fine tune their teaching skills, providing our GATE students with the best instruction possible.  Our GATE students are also given the opportunity to create research projects in class and attend our three eight week sessions of “Art History and Appreciation” during our after school program.  Also, our GATE students are given the opportunity participate in our GATE mini grants, which provides our students the opportunity to do a community service project, a vital opportunity to prepare our students for upcoming college applications.  Finally, if our GATE students participate in our After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) they will have the opportunity to be a part of our school newspaper.
