Dear Parents:
 

I want to welcome you as our partner in your child’s education.  We truly value, appreciate, and seek out your involvement and collaboration for the success of your child. 
 

This year we are asking all parents to help us ensure the regular, on-time attendance of their children at school.  We will be monitoring attendance closely because research has shown that regular attendance is vital for the success of children in school. 
 

California law states that absences are excused only if the child is ill or there is an excuse, which meets the requirements of Education Code Section 48205.  Education Code Section 48260 defines a truant as a pupil who has missed more that 30 minutes on three days without valid excuse in one school year.  Our goal is to have all children present in school every day and on time. 

Parents, please be aware that going “out of town” when school is in session with your child is an unexcused absence.  Further, it is our district’s policy that we may require verification of absences due to illness or quarantine, if your child has missed school for three consecutive days.

We at Martin Luther King Elementary school will work very hard with you to ensure that your child receives the best education possible.  We are depending on you, and we want to thank you for entrusting us with your child.  To provide your child with an outstanding education, he/she must maintain excellent attendance.

“Every Day in School & On Time”

Estimados Padres:

Quiero darles la bienvenida como socios en la educación de sus hijos.  Nosotros verdaderamente valoramos y esperamos su  involucramiento y colaboración para lograr que sus hijos tengan  éxito.

Estamos pidiendo a todos los padres que nos ayuden  asegurando de que haya asistencia  escolar puntual y regular.  Nosotros estaremos monitoreando la asistencia de cerca debido a que las investigaciones han demostrado que la asistencia regular  es vital para que los alumnos tengan éxito en la escuela.

Las leyes de California establecen que las ausencias tienen excusa solamente si el estudiante está enfermo, si no es así no hay excusa, esto llena los requerimientos del Código de Educación 48205.  El Código de Educación 48260 define al estudiante como absentista habitual a aquel que está ausente por más de tres días o que llegue más de 30 minutos tarde tres días durante el año escolar sin una excusa válida.  Nuestra meta es tener a todos los alumnos presentes en la escuela todos los días y a tiempo.
